Thank you for your question.  I am sorry you are having a problem with your Kenmore 665.15891790 dishwasher

Caution:  Before attempting any repair, turn the power to the dishwasher off first.

A grinding noise sounds like something is in the sump of the dishwasher.  I would suggest you first remove the pump outlet cover and check the wash and drain impeller.  The images below will assist you with this project.

You can reply below with any additional details or questions.

You can also have the problem repaired in your home by a Sears technician.  Here is the link: Sears Home Services dishwasher repair

Q:

Installing new manifold and spray arm on model no. 66515891790 66515891790

A:

I understand how hard some "simple" repairs can be. It is never as easy as it would seem. I located a similar question that may help while you wait for the expert. I also added the Sears Parts Direct parts images to help. Both links are below. I hope this helps.

I know how inconvenient it is when the dishwasher is out. Washing dishes by hand is just so time consuming. The link Barbara sent you on the parts diagram will be a huge help. The page you want to look at is the Upper Dishrack and Water Feed diagram. Key number 14 is the bottom half of the tiered mount. That is what fits down into the center of the spray arm. It is what also hooks on to the underside of the dishrack. The assembly will be held together by number 16, which is the screw that comes up from the underside of the sprayarm manifold. If you attach the tiered mount and it isn't hanging straight, turn it around. Key number 8 is the holder that helps keep the whole assembly straight.

Once you have the dishwasher up and running again, I do recommend running some Dishwasher Magic thru it. It will remove any deposits in the tub and also remove mineral build up in the pump and drain. I have included the link for you. A good way to see if you have a build up is to run your hand on the inside of the tub. if you see a powdery residue or feel any roughness, you have a build up.

Thank you both very much. I have managed to put it all together, but there is a problem. The spray arm seems to need to be a bit higher, as it bumps Key number 8 when I spin it. What might I have done wrong to create this glitch?

I am sorry to hear the spray arm is hitting the water inlet holder. It sounds like the holder needs to be slid back closer to the rear wall. Try unhooking it from the upper dishrack, move it back until the spray arm moves freely and then rehook it to the dishrack. Let me know if you need any further assistance. Thank you for choosing Sears.

A:

Thank you, Linda. The holder was already back as far as it could go, so I just ran a quick wash to see what would happen. After that wash, a further tightening of the #16 screw, and one normal wash, I can report that the spray arm only hits the holder once in several That's good enough for me. I appreciate your help and encouragement. Now I will move on to acquiring the Dishwasher Magic. Blessings, Virginia

Q:

Why does my dishwasher stop in the drain cycle?

A:

You said the dishwasher will stop in the drain cycle so I must assume it will wash. The failure could be the control board, the motor or loose wire connections for the drain circuit. Your motor is a reversing motor, it runs in one direction for washing and it then it has to stop and reverse its direction in order to pump the water out. In order to diagnose the failure will require a volt/ohm meter to test the motor circuit and the voltage supply to the motor. Disconnect the power supply to the dishwasher and then remove the lower access panel. You can test the motor windings with an ohm meter. See image below. Locate the quick disconnect harness plug connecting the motor and disconnect it and then follow the instructions in the image for testing the motor windings.

I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your dishwasher.

dishwasher 665 15982990 1. dishwasher does not drain in a cycle. The motor does not come on for draining during cycle. However works just fine when the cancel/drain button is pushed. 2. During a cycle, the motor comes on several times for washing during a complete cycle. However it cuts off after sometimes as few as 5 seconds and sometimes as long as a minute. I replaced the electronic control module with no change (rats!). I did test the motors windings with an ohm meter. They seem OK. If motor and control panel are both OK is there anything else that could be causing this issue?
