Hi Brian,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

The part number you listed is correct for the model number you gave me. I am including images of the part below. Check the part you have against these images.

Here is a video that demonstrates replacing the motor/sump assembly; Video . Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts. The dishwasher in this video may not look exactly like yours but the procedure is basically the same.

If you still are not sure about the part you have, send me images of both (the old and the new) and I will look.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website; Sears Home Services .

Here is alink that you may use to view or purchase parts for your Kenmore model 665.15889000 dishwasher .

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance please include more details in a reply to this post.

Q:

Why does my Kenmore 665.15889000 dishwasher sensing light never go out causing cycle times over 2.5 hrs.

A:

This dishwasher senses soil in the water through a pressure switch. This switch closes when excessive soil is detected in the pump. You could have a stuck pressure switch or a problem with the control board that could be causing your long cycle times. I recommend that you have a service technician diagnose and repair this type of problem. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

I noticed that the cycle stops at 76 minutes left in the cycle. From the diagnostic sheet on the dishwasher I noticed this is when the dishwasher is waiting for the temperature to come up to setpoint. I opened the door and touched the heating element and it was not hot. Could I have a bad heating element?

Q:

How do I fix the pump on my Kenmore dishwasher model 665.15889000?

A:

The chopper blade assembly is designed to fail instead of the shaft on the pump. I recommend ordering and replacing the chopper blade assembly unless it is clearly apparent that the motor shaft is damaged and needs to be replaced.

If the motor shaft that is on the end of the impeller is worn out or damaged, then the entire pump motor would need to be replaced. You can normally order a new impeller kit on some pump and motor assemblies for this model of dishwasher but the parts information that I see on this model indicates that the impeller kit is not available. The impeller kit substitutes to an entire pump motor assembly. The impeller part for the original pump motor is no longer available.

If you have to replace the motor, I recommend spending $15 dollars more and replacing the entire sump and motor assembly instead of just replacing the pump motor. The original part for the impeller kit (8268398) substitutes to a pump motor (part 8534942 for $141.14). You can order and replace the entire sump and motor assembly (part W10239405 for $154.70) for only a few dollars more. Replacing the whole sump and motor assembly is a much easier repair.

If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details.
