Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

I am giving you the instructions for replacing the door switches in the images below. To check the door switches:

  1. Disconnect power to the dishwasher.
  2. Pull the wires off each switch and tape them together. One switch will have white wire and a white/violet wire. The other switch will have a tan wire and a black wire.
  3. Tape a bypass wire into the connectors of the tan wire to the black wire.
  4. Tape a bypass wire into the connectors of the white wire to the white/violet wire.
  5. Restore power to the dishwasher and then try starting a cycle. If it starts, you need to replace the switches.

Hi Ken,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

I am sorry you are having problems with your dishwasher.

Here is a video that will demonstrate how to gain access to the controls; Video . This video shows the replacement of the main control, you mentioned that you are replacing the switch control. This video will basically demonstrate how to gain access to the inside of the console. To remove the switch control it will involve a few screws which attach this control to the back of the console. Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts.

You also mentioned you had to open and close the door in order to get your dishwasher to start. Bad door switches can also cause this issue. If you have an ohm/volt meter you can check the switches, by checking continuity across each switch with it open and closed. The switch should show continuity when closed. If you do not have a meter you can pull the wires off each switch and tape them together. Restore power to the dishwasher and then try starting a cycle. If it starts easily, you need to replace one or both switches.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Though the video showed the installation of the Control Panel, there was enough info there for me to install the Computer Module. The only challenge was figuring out how the housing brackets unsnapped. (My unit has a different configuration than the one in the video.) With patience, I got the housing and the Control Panel off - and then back on. When I turned the power back on, the circuit board responded to the settings. So far, so good. Thanks Landell Best wishes, Ken

There could be several reasons why your washer has a bad odor. Here is the best procedure for cleaning the odor out of your dishwasher.

I'd start by using a product called Dishwasher Magic.

You can order Dishwasher Magic from the following site: Sears PartsDirect . It is part number WX10X10200 out of division 22 source 363.

It is also available from most local grocery stores.

Odors are not a common problem with dishwashers so I would also suggest checking under the dishwasher for any source of odor. The first image will show you how to remove the toe panel. Remember to turn the power to the dishwasher off first.

The 2nd image is just in case the Dishwasher Magic doesn't work. There may be a build up in the sump of the dishwasher. The filters may be clogged.

I hope this information is helpful to you.
