Question and Answers

How do I know if my dishwasher's water level switch is bad?

When the float switch is in the down position, it should read near zero ohms (continuity) with one wire removed and the breaker for the dishwasher shut off to disconnect electrical power. When it is lifted to the up position and the switch is open, it should read infinite resistance.

If the float switch is apparently working properly, you may have a problem with water pressure in the supply line or a restriction in the water supply. I recommend that you shut off the breaker and the water supply for the dishwasher and then pull it out from under the counter to check the water supply. You can reverse the installation instructions to access the water supply line. Here is a copy of the installation instructions for your model of dishwasher in case you need it: Installation Instructions . Pull the dishwasher out and disconnect the water line. Place the end of the water line in a bucket and briefly turn on the water supply to the dishwasher to check for proper pressure and flow. Check the screen on the inlet water valve for the dishwasher for debris or hard water deposits that could be clogging it. A failed solenoid inlet water valve could be causing the low fill. If you are not able to determine the cause of your fill problem using these tips, I recommend that you have a technician physically examine the dishwasher.

If the dishwasher fills and then immediately drains, you could have a problem with the pump assembly and the pressure switch. I recommend having a service technician repair this type of problem.
