Hi Doug,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

This issue is most likely caused by a failed heating element or blown thermal fuse. The heating element is in the bottom of the tub. The diagnosis of this issue will require the use of an ohm/volt meter and you will have to perform ohm checks and/or live voltage checks. If you have an ohm/volt meter and are confident in your technical abilities, please reply below and I will be happy to assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

A:

I'm unclear if the problem is with the upper spinner or with the middle spray arm.

Both are fed by the same water delivery tube.

Be sure they will spin freely by hand and there is no restriction.

The water level should be just below the element and it should stay the same through the cycle.

You don't mention the drain but make sure the water all drains out okay. A poor wash can be caused by a bad wash impeller while a poor drain might be caused by a bad pump impeller.

Check the screens are not blocked. The image below will show you how to check and remove the filters.

If nothing shows up with the checks then perhaps with a few more details I can help you further.

Q:

Our Kenmore dishwasher Model #66515791791 has water in the bottom of it...How do we get it to drain? Can we use Draino?

A:

If the motor is running & the unit will not drain I suspect the drain impeller or a blocked drain line. If the motor is not running you will need a meter to make the diagnosis with. Possibilities; no power, timer, motor or wiring harness problems. I do not recommend using drain-o. You can disconnect the drain hose under the sink & lower into a bucket to siphon the water out of the tub.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

SAFETY NOTICE: Be sure to disconnect power to the appliance before performing any repairs. If you are not comfortable with doing any voltage checks that might be recommended, please contact your local service provider for repairs. Be aware that there could be sharp edges inside the appliance that could cause cuts or other injuries to yourself or others.
