Some additional comments: after reassembling the dishwasher, I discovered the dishwasher runs with the door open. I may be answering my own question, but is that normal?

Thank you for your question on the dishwasher error out on the heat cycle.

The running of the dishwasher with the door open is not normal and if you removed the wires from the door switch to work in the control and ribbon it may be lock in the latch may have gotten locked in the closed position.

You will need to reset the door latch.

The control board is monitoring the heat circuit and detecting a problem.

It could be a bad heater or water temperature thermistor sensor in the heat circuit.

Remove the power to the washer and remove the lower kick panels and check the connections on the heating element and the thermal sensors under the tub for the heat circuit. If the thermistor does not see a 5 degree temperature rise in a specific amount of time it will error out.

When you do the key dance it overrides the error code for one cycle and then the control see the problem is still there and puts up the flashing lights which are the same as an error code.

Please let me know what you find out and we can continue to troubleshoot with that information.

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

I am including the instructions for removing the dispenser assembly in the images below. Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services

Here is a link that you may use to view the parts list diagram or to purchase any parts needed; Sears Parts Direct

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance please reply to this post.
