Question and Answers

Q:

Kenmore dishwasher model number 66513749k602 will not drain.

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The drain pump could be jammed, it could be a faulty drain pump or it could have a faulty electronic control.

To begin in diagnosing the failure will require measuring the voltage supply across the two brown wires connected to the drain pump. Disconnect the wire connection from the drain pump and then connect the two volt meter leads across the two brown wires, one meter lead in one brown wire and the other meter lead in the other brown wire. Shut the door and press the Cancel/Drain pad and see if the control board is supplying 120 volts across the two brown wires. If the voltage meter does not measure 110-120 volts, the control board is faulty. If it does measure 110-120 volts, the drain pump assembly is faulty or jammed.

You can access the drain pump by removing the lower access panel.  NOTE: I do not recommend measuring the voltage supply to the drain pump unless you have experience and feel safe and confident in doing so; otherwise I suggest calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your dishwasher.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

If the dishwasher is totally dead (no lights/no display) then it may have the lack of the voltage supply (120vac) or a faulty non-resettable thermal cutoff inside the console. In order to diagnose the failure will first require testing and verifying the incoming voltage supply where it connects the dishwasher. The lower toe panel and lower access panel will need to be removed in order to access the electrical junction box. Disconnect the power supply by flipping the house circuit breaker off dedicated for the dishwasher circuit before removing the electrical box cover and disconnecting the black and white wires. If 120 volts is present then the thermal cutoff will need to disconnected and tested with an Ohm meter for continuity. The thermal cutoff is located in side the control panel. The thermal cutoff will have a black wire and black wire with a white strip connected to it.

NOTE: I do not recommend checking voltages unless you have experience and you feel safe and confident in doing so; otherwise I recommend calling for service.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
