Drive Nut Replacement 66513605790 Kenmore Compactor

Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears
I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there is repair work being done on the trash compactor.
Glad to help out.   Im  looking at your Kenmore Compactor model number 66513605790.
Ideas on replacing the drive nuts.   I hope this will help.

1. Please uninstall the compactor from the cabinet and pull it out.   Unplug and or turn off the power to the compactor.

2.  Depress the foot pedal and pull the drawer container assembly foreward.  Then lift it up and off the track.  (becareful could be heavy).

3.  Remove the mounting brackets at the top of the compactor.  Slide the top panel/cover back and slip it off.   (becareful could be sharp).

4.  Lay a mat down and carefully set the compactor down on its side.  (May be heavy so be careful).

5.  Remove the 4 screws that secure the bottom panel.  Then pull the panel off.

6.  Carefully rotate the drive gear, counter clockwise to disengage the ram of the power screws.

7.  Stand the compactor back up to its upright position.

8.  Use tape to hold the directional switch lever away from the ram.  (be careful could be sharp)

9.  Now lift the ram out. Pull out the power screw shields.

10.  You can now remove the ram stops and washers.  Then install the new washers and ram stop.  Apply some grease to the top and bottom of each.

11 replace the side shields.   Carefully replace the ram making sure it is in there correctly.

12.  Set the compactor back down on its side.   Use a 3/8 inch socke to remove the motor mounting screws.  To allow motor assembly to slide foreward.  It will release tension on the chain.

13. Remove the retaining clip securing the drive gear.  Then pull off the gear.  Use a hammer and punch to remove the roll pin.  'Then pull the gear off.

14.  Install the new gear by sliding it on the shaft and then secure it by installing the pin.   Make sure the washer is on the drive shaft and then install the new drive gear.   Slide the new gear on the shaft.  Then secure it with the retaining clip.

15.   Remove the screws for the motor cover.  Now you can pull the motor back to put tension on the chain. so the chain moves no more than 3/8s of an inch.

16.   Tighten the motor assembly bolts back up.  Then rotate the new gear clock wise to re-engage the ram.

17.  Apply grease to the new gears.  Re tighten the motor cover screw.

18 replace the bottom panel and put everything back as you took it off.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter and I hope we can help you with your future questions and repairs.  Thank you for choosing Sears and using our
