Thank you for your question and I understand your concern. Based on your symptom and details there is likely some type of small hard object stuck in the chopper assembly or possibly a broke chopper assembly causing the noise.

In order to access the chopper assembly, the soil accumulator must be taken off and then the inlet protector.

I added the basic instructions in the image below.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

Why is my Kenmore dishwasher model 665.13472K901 making a loud whirring noise when the pump is running?

A:

I must assume you are hearing the wash motor and not the drain motor. Running the pump dry most likely has caused damage to the water seals in which you are likely hearing. You could also have some type of hard object stuck in the chopper blade area causing the noise too. I recommend removing the accumulator, foreign object protector and inlet protector and check for any hard object that may be stuck in the chopper blade assembly. I added the complete instructions in the image below. If you find nothing in the chopper blade or in the wash impeller causing the noise I would replace the sump and motor assembly.
