Q:

Kenmore Elite Dishwasher Buttons

A:

Control buttons falling off after a relatively short time would be upsetting. If you can add the model number of the dishwasher to this thread it will help the expert provide a better answer. Barbara, Looks like I can get a Kenmore medallioon but I can't get a new face plate without buying the whole control panel for $100. I still think this a design problem. You need to read some of the product review sites and see that this is a significant problem and should be Sears respondsibility.

Joey, I have the same issue.... I am trying to determine if it is worth repairing my unit with a new control board or putting in a new Dishwasher completely. Have you heard if the replacment control boards hold up any better? I do not want to spend $100 every time buttons fall off. What would you do? Thanks,....

A:

KC: Most consoles/touch panels on dishwashers have the touch button switches located under the Mylar covering and they do not just fall off. The Mylar may crack from age or use but the control panels will generally hold up for a long time depending on the use and environment. Replacing a console/touch panel is less expensive than a new dishwasher.

My Kenmore Elite is less than 1 year old. I just noticed the Mylar cracking. Replacing the control panel is cheaper than a new dishwasher, unless I have to replace the control panel annually. Should I expect that the Mylar would last longer than 1 year?

A:

Brian: The Mylar should last longer than a year providing that no harsh cleaners are used on it or is exposed to direct sun light. Use mild detergent and clean water rinse and clean the console if needed. I recommend calling and setting up a service appointment while your dishwasher is still under the manufactures warranty to have the console replaced.

I stated this thread a year ago and it seems that more and more people are having the same problem and Sears wants to blame the customer for use of "Harsh cleaners". This is a very good dishwasher with a design flaw that Sears just won't admit. Why would I spend a $100 on a flawed part.? Sears, it's time to admit " you have a problem"

Q:

how do I repair my dish washer?

A:

 Hi,

Thanks for contacting  ManageMyLife.  I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your appliance.

The float stops the water fill and the next issue is the upper spray arms need to be dismounted and shaken to determine if there is something in the arm that is diverting the water.  The next is to check the lower filters and make certain there is nothing that would block the flow of water to the upper arm.

I have provided you some directions to check the pump and the rear supply tube.

Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. We are always here to help.

Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com.

Bill

A:

It can be very frustrating when your dishwasher fails to clean properly. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I did some research on the unit. At this time, I was unable to locate information that would be helpful in regards to your question. Some of these questions that are asked will need specific research and will be answered by an expert with-in two business days but usually sooner.

This dishwasher has the screen filter under the lower wash arm. If that filter is clear, then you may have a clog down in the sump assembly. The image below shows a procedure for access that area around the chopper blade. You may find a problem in that area.

Your dishwasher will look slightly different than the one shown below but the basic procedure to access that chopper blade area is the same.

Your model has a turbo wash manifold at the back of the tub. You could have a problem with that system that is preventing the upper spray arm from getting water. If you suspect that you have that type of problem, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician examine and repair the dishwasher, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .
