The previous answer you were directed to covers most of the basic causes of the white spots.

If the problem just started recently then it may be the soap. Recently due to new government regulations all dishwasher soaps have changed there formulas to eliminate or reduce the amount of phosphates. The solution may be as simple as changing soaps.

The image below will help you access and check the filter of the dishwasher.

You can also try to identify the type of white spot it is.

If you can run a little water over the spot and rub it off then likely the spots are soap residue.

If you cannot eliminate the spot with water then it may be a mineral film. A rinse cycle with about a cup of vinegar added should help with this type of stain.
