Thank you for your question.  My first thought is that the your meter needs to by check and possibly calibrated.

Radiation leakage past the door is very rare and when three different new microwaves fail a leak test I am more inclined to thing the problem is with the meter or test.

When you are testing for leaks be sure to have a item such as a cup of water in the microwave being heated.  If nothing is in the microwave then the leak test might fail.

On the model 6633 microwave the standards would be the microwave energy level should be below 5 mW/cm.sq.

The door should have no gap larger then 1/64 inch.

I hope this helps.

Sorry for getting back late. Joseph and Fred, I appreciate your responses very much. Fred: thank you for your professional opinion. I have checked with the detector's OEM and they also told me the meter looked like not working properly. Their opinion was exactly the same as what Fred said. The detector was newly purchased. I have contacted the distributor to have a replacement. ManageMyLife is really helpful! Thanks alot, Hong

Q:

How can I check whether my product is still under warranty?

A:

I can understand wanting to know if the Kenmore microwave is under warranty. Most products come with a one year warranty from date of purchase. I understand you are experiencing difficulties with your Microwave. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. Door repairs and adjustments, even minor ones, can cause microwave leakage and a microwave shielding leakage test must be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service. This repair should be done only by a qualified service technician. I have provided a link To Sears Home Services if you decide to schedule service. It may be cost effective to just replace the unit, I have also provided a link to the Microwave section of Sears.com to price out what a replacement would cost.

I can understand how important it is to have the right information for your items. The warranty information is usually located in the owner's manual for the product, and most of them only come with a one year warranty. There are some however that come with exceptional parts warranties, but this is also list in the owner's manual. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread with your owner's manual. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

The microwave model is the Kenmore 6633[9]. It is highly rated on ConsumerReports, which is why I decided to choose it.

We do not have a method for determining those statistics on that Kenmore model of microwave. The failure of that magnetron during the first year is normally less than 1% (if that). We do not have the data that is needed on number of units sold and number of units serviced that would be needed to provide you with exact statistical data.
