The top load washer I believe you are referring to is a Frigidaire built, Montgomery Ward branded washer.

  • The agitator has a agitator cap that unscrews off the top of the agitator, once removed you can pull up on the agitator by gripping the agitator at the bottom of the tub. This being a older unit the agitator may be stuck on to the transmission drive block and could be a challenge to remove. Once you get the agitator removed the transmission shaft is exposed.
  • At the bottom of the tub the trunion hub has two bolts and a flat block that holds the spin basket to the transmission shaft. Remove the two bolts and the locking block by tapping it out of the slot on the transmission shaft. Once you have this loose you should be able to pull the spin basket up the shaft and out. Below this basket is where the water spin seal is located.
  • The part number for this seal is 5308950197 which you can purchase at Sears Parts Direct
