That type of failure is caused by a defective infinite burner switch in range model 628.9437910. To determine which switch is bad, a technician will unplug the range and access the infinite burner switches in the console. Using a process of elimination, the technician will pull the wire (usually red in color) off of the "P" terminal on one burner switch. The end of that wire will be covered with electrical tape to prevent it from shorting out to the metal cabinet. The console would be closed and the range would be plugged back in to see if the light stays on. If it does, then that process is repeated until the defective switch is found. If you are confident that you can conduct that test yourself, then you should be able to find the defective infinite burner switch.

If you find the bad switch, you can order the part from this page: Kenmore Range Model 628.9437910 Parts . Be sure that you unplug the range before accessing internal components and replacing parts.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .

I have figured out how to install the new clock/timer, with the exception of the wiring hookups. The new timer did not come with a wiring diagram and it is a "factory approved" replacement part that doe not have the same connections as the original. Before I blow up the new one by hooking it up incorrectly I was hoping to find a wiring diagram (or instructions) for the new clock timer.
