Thank you for your question.

I can understand wanting to check the softener for proper operation.

If you push and HOLD the Recharge button for three seconds it should start the recharge now to see if it will work at all.

Please check the process in the image below to see it will go through the whole manual regeneration process.

You can keep pushing the regenerate now to move the rotor through the different steps of the regeneration process. Fill/Brining/Brine Rinse/Backwash/Fast Rinse.

As it goes through the steps you can check to see it the brine is filling and drawing the brine water into the resin bed and then the backwash and rinse.

If pushing the regenerate now does not work you have a problem with the control board.

Please try this and reply with what you found out and I will be glad to help you further.

Also there is a customer support line for you and if you call 1-800-426-9345 they will help you go through the diagnosis to see what the problem is.

There is also an interactive web site with trouble shooting steps for you to go through to see if you can discover the problem.

I have a similar problem. I had disconnected my water softener (300 series) for a few months to see if we liked "un-softened" water. But now, having reconnected it, I can't get it to work. Water is turned on, valve is set to "service" position, salt pellets in place. I did have to use a broom stick to bust through some "crust," but all seems to be well, now. Settings are correct as to salt level, etc. If I press the "regen" button and hold it for more than three seconds, nothing happens. It will not regenerate. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the response. There is no "on/off" button on this particular model. I do have a "Regen" button, that I have tried holding down for more than three seconds with no result. Model # is 625 373060 Dennis

I should add that in "tapping" with my knuckles on the outside of the casing of the water softener there was a hollow sound from the top to about 3/4 of the way down where it became a hard or solid sound. Perhaps the salt has hardened to the extent that my trying to break it up with a broomstick wasn't effective. So I added two gallons of lukewarm water to the tank as per this website's suggestion. Will see if that helps.

Duh. Just realized the hollow sound comes from the area where there are no salt pellets, and the solid sound comes from the area where there are salt pellets. Logic sometimes escapes me. Sorry.

Thank you for your question on the water softener with water in the bottom of the tank.

There is supposed to be about 4 inches of water in the bottom of the tank that you can see when you look down the brine well tube.

The unit will add water and then draw the salt brine water up through the resin bed to clean it.

I will give you a link to the web site Kenmore water and it will give you interactive information on how the water softener works. Please click on the blue link below.

Kenmore water troubleshooting .

If you still are having a problem with the softener please reply with the model number of the softener. It should start with 625.3XXXXXX and it is located under the front cover on the model serial sticker.

Thank you for your question on the water softener flashing on the display.

If the time is flashing on the display it usually means that power had been interrupted for over 24 hrs.

I you will reply with the model number for the softener from the foil sticker under the lid I will be able to see what software style this model has and give you a more accurate diagnosis. The model number should look like 625.3XXXXX.

I the mean time I would suggest pushing the select button and set the time of day and the hardness level to see if that will solve the problem.

If you would like a quicker answer you could call the Kenmore water line @ 1-800-426-9345 option 2 for live help.

You could also go to Kenmore water.com to the interactive web troubleshooting sight for diagnosis problems.
