The timer motor on the timer should only get the voltage needed to operate and advance the timer whenever the heating element cycles off. This is controlled by the operating thermostat. The most likely failure is the operating thermostat.

The specific part number of the thermostat will depend on the serial number of your dryer.

  • Use Thermostat part #50351 if your serial number starts after 9606.

  • Use Thermostat part #Y61372 if your serial number starts before 9607.

You can order the thermostat at Sears Parts Direct .

The operating thermostat is located on the front of the blower housing. Note: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before removing the lower access panel. Remove the lower access panel to gain access. While supporting the lower access panel, remove two screws from bottom edge of lower access panel. See image below.
