Q:

Refrigerator door hinged seal will not close on its own

A:

Thanks for the information about your refrigerator model 596.78576800, sorry you are having this issue I will be glad to assist you. Based on your description I would first suggest that you inspect the main door for alignment, if it is not leveled and aligned correctly that could affect the mullion latching.  The refrigerator must be properly leveled then if needed adjust the doors, try that before replacing the mullion.   If the door adjustments do not help then it is possible that the mullion is sagging causing this issue and will need replacing. It is difficult to determine the exact issue without actually seeing and inspecting the doors, if you have any reservations about replacing more parts you should call for an experienced technician. How does one adjust the doors? And if the mullion needs replacing, what is its part number. There seem to be three parts with the designation of Vert Mull, which makes it a little difficult to know which one we need. The refrigerator has not been moved since it was installed about two years ago, so I doubt the leveling has changed. We don't mind replacing parts if it will fix the problem! Thanks.

Hi Mary02, thanks for the reply, to adjust the doors, loosen top and bottom door hinges and move door to desired location and retighten the hinges, you can also adjust the refrigerator with the leveling legs located at the bottom behind the kick panel. Instructions are also in your owner's manual. The mullion is called mullion door and the part is numbered according to the color you need, here is the link to Sears Parts Direct, they will be happy to help you with the order if you determine the mullion needs replacing.
