Q:

Kenmore Elite Trio 596.7759 refrigerator - can't get new control board to program, even following instructions shown here.

A:

When making adjustments on a refrigerator I know how important it is to have detailed information to make sure the job is done rite. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I suggest you add to the thread of this question and include the full model number of your appliance so that the expert can provide you with a more detailed answer. I did manage to find a link in where you can enter your appliance model number and the owners manual will pop up in where you can find information to help you set up the controls. I hope my link is useful.

I provided a written procedure for programming the code of this model of refrigerator in the image below. It sounds similar to the method that you are describing but there may be some differences. I recommend that you carefully read through the procedure shown below. Follow that procedure to program the control board.

If you still have problems, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

Lyle, Thanks. That was the procedure I followed, including an expert recommenation to be very quick on the release of the "door alarm" button. I get the non-flashing PE on the left display and a blank right display as listed, but as soon as I take my finger off of the freezer temp down button to push it again to confirm entry (according to step 5), the PE and 000 starting flashing again and nothing else works. I tried this, and variations, about 75 times. FYI: My button selections are slightly different. I have "Grocery Savor" instead of "Max Cool", "Humidity Control" instead of "Vacation Mode" and "Acceller Ice" instead of "Fast Ice" All in all, they seem pretty much the same function, though.

Once you get the PE and the 000 flashing, try adjusting the setting using the refrigerator + keypad. This may help you get the programming set. Let me know if that does not work.

I have a model 596.77599802. I just replaced the control board and tried to reprogram it. All was going well until I had to enter the code. I entered it wrong, tried to set it not realizing what I had done and then the screen went blank. I unplugged the refrigerator to reset and tried to reprogram it, but the screen remains blank. This is so frustrating!! Any ideas?

Unplug the refrigerator for 5 minutes. Plug it back in and see if you get a display. This may help you fix that problem. If not, then you may have a damaged control board due to the incorrect programming code being entered. You may need to replace that control board again.

You can check the wiring connections and the power supply going to the control board. Do you have any display?

I checked the wiring going to the board with a voltage detector and there's definitely juice going to the board. I see that one of the connections is attached to the overlay/touch pad. Could that be the issue?
