Question and Answers

Q:

How do I remove a stuck water filter from my refrigerator?

A:

The filter must be rotated counter clockwise to release it and remove it. If the filter will not turn, I recommend trying to turn it by carefully using a pair of channel lock pliers. This may free it up so that it will turn and release.

If you still cannot get it out, you may need to call a service technician to release it or replace the filter housing.

I have a similar problem as above, "filter refuseing to come out. Refridgerator Model #596.76602600 Filter #46-9006 I have used, rubber gloves,& then channel locks to try and turn the filter, but all I do is turn it about 3/4 of the way guides, and it freezes up and won't turn anymore. The plastic houseing also turns and the filter holder pops out of the holding fingers. I am concerned about breaking these fingers and then be in worse trouble. Not a lot of room to keep things from torgueing and possibly breaking. Even tryed pushing and or pulling when trying to turn the filter and no luck.

I have the same problem the filter use to be 46-9005 but the maufacture replaced the filter with the 46-9006 every since the filters have been hard to install but this is the 1st one that wont come out. I think sears should send a repair person out free of charge since so many customers are having the same issue with this filter in this model refrigerator

I too could not remove the water filter from my Kenmore Elite Bottom Freezer refrigerator. The filter is in the upper left corner and after dropping open the housing that holds the filter it just would not budge. Well my son soon figured it out and removed the top shelf right beneath it and this allowed the housing and filter to drop ALL the way down and then it was removed easily. Hope this helps someone else because I did not get that info on the phone or website. Best of Luck. And also it did not need to be turned counter clockwise on my model just pull out.

I too did as above with the counterclockwise. That did not work for me. The one that did work was the one where the woman said her son had removed the shelf below the filter and then the housing lowered even more so and it pulled right out no problem.

Thank you Laura for posting. After many failed attempts (and concern about breaking the whole housing), it came right out after removing the top shelf as you suggested.

I also had the same problem, but I HAVE THE ANSWER!!! Remove the top shelve that's under the filter, this way the filter drops down much further, then turn a quarter turn counterclockwise and pull. Hope this helps you!! Greg

Q:

Kenmore Elite Trio bottome Freezer

A:

Thanks for contacting manage my life about your refrigerator model 596.76602600, sorry you are having a problem I will be glad to assist you. There are a couple things to inspect when water is not dispensing, I will cover them for you.    First, because the water tank is located in the lower section of the fresh food area it is possible that water has frozen inside the tank or connecting tubing.  You can apply warm air to the tank and connecting tubing with a hair dryer, being careful not to overheat the plastic. If freezing was the issue adjust the temperature settings(this can happen also if the unit goes un-used for a few days) Next , check the filter for being clogged, remove the filter and use your filter by-pass, if water now comes through change the filter. The last item you can check would be the water inlet valve, when you press for water listen for a slight humming sound from the back, if you do not hear any sound, try to get to the back where the water line connects and try again to hear the hum. If there is no hum the issue could be in the actuator switch, inlet valve or connecting wiring. (the valve is a dual valve with two solenoids one for water  the other for ice. I hope this helps you, if you need more help reply with added details and I will be happy to respond.
