It seems as the drain plug is clogged and the water is trying to get out. I would so this defrost again and find that drain hole and clean it out and make sure the water can flow thru.

kenmore #596.75269700 after takeen off the panel from the freezer compartment to change the heater element i found a thermister in the upper right hand corner and not in the control section as in the diagram. is there more than 1 ?

Terry, this model only has one thermistor. I suspect the part you are referring to is, the defrost thermostat. It will be located in the section you are describing. I hope this will help you.

no because i tested the defrost timer and found it to be ok. this thermister i'm referring to is in a cover that protrudes into the freezer compartment, attached to back cover.

Terry, the freezer thermistor does mount on the back cover in the freezer and it will need to be spliced back to the wires that connected the original thermistor. Be sure to disconnect the power first. Refer to the instructions: 1. Remove Thermistor cover located on the Evaporator Cover by inserting a screw driver in slot and releasing tab holding Thermistor cover on. 2. Unclip Thermistor from cover and cut wires to Thermistor. 3. Remove Thermistor. Unfortunatey, there is no diagram for this thermistor. I hope this will help you.
