Fridge not cooling and ice maker issue 596.73503201

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com and being a valued member. It is unfortunate to hear that you are having issues with your refrigerator and I do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. I'm looking at your model number 596.73503201 and from your description of the icemaker I would suspect the water inlet valve may have a solenoid that failed. The humming sound may be the solenoid on the valve and not allowing water to flow to the icemaker. The problem you described with the neither refrigerator nor freezer not cooling could indicate a failure with item either the thermostat on the evaporator. I recommend testing the thermostat. If the thermostat is functioning normal then you may want to test the capacitor items 10 and 11. I have included a link to our Parts Direct page where you can purchase the part you need to complete your repair. Just click the blue link above to be taken to the page. I trust this information will help you.

Thank you for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com.

The unit just experienced the same problem. Let me make sure I understand correctly. Do you recommended testing the the thermostat, the evaporator, and the capacitor items 10 & 11? How do I test these components? I'd like to find the faulty parts now and make the repair. Thanks

Q:

Refrigerator is freezing everything 59673503201

A:

Thank you for choosing sears I would be happy to help you with your refrigerator. Upon researching model 59673503201; yes it sounds like the thermostat may need to be replaced. The thermostat controls how cold the unit gets according to your temperature selection. It could also be the damper, the damper allows the cold air from the freezer to transfer to the refrigerator section according to the temperature selected. Since the problem is that the refrigerator keeps freezing no matter what temperature is selected then the damper may have got stuck in the open position.

I trust this information will help you, have a great day.
