Question and Answers

refrigerator, freezer works fine. refrigerator compartment warm.

I know that it can be very frustrating to have issue with your refrigerator. If the freezer is cooling ok and if the damper is open check for a thick frost buildup on the back wall in the freezer. If there is a frost build up, this will be a defrost problem. In this case, you can turn the unit off for 24 hours and leave the freezer door open to allow it time to defrost. After this time period you can turn the unit back on and it should cool ok again for a few days until the frost builds back up. This will give you a chance to have it checked.

If there is no frost build up, the most likely problem will be with the return air vent. Feel the air flow out of the air damper and then open the freezer door. If the air flow increases, it will indicate the return air vent is closed. Check the grill behind the crisper to see if anything is on top of it. If nothing is covering it, then it will indicate it's frozen. To clear this vent will again require turning the unit off for 24 hours and leave the door open. In this case, there is a heater kit that can be installed by a technician, to help prevent this problem from happening again. If the fan is not running at all, then the fan motor will need to be replaced. If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself, please click on the link to schedule service: Sears Home Services.
