Thank you for your question. If the freezer section is still working and only the fresh food section is not cooling, I would suspect a problem with the damper. But first, check behind the crisper drawers in the fresh food section. Is there ice there? If so pour a 4 oz glass of hot water into the vent and see if the water runs out in the freezer section. This is the air return and it could be clogged up with ice. Ice is formed there from moisture in the air when the door is opened and closed. The refrigerator should recalculate the cool air into the fresh food section and when the door is closed the air goes thru the return air to the freezer section. The lack of air movement will also cause this problem. Now you are back to the damper located on the top of the fresh food section. I have sent you a picture of how to take the panel off to check the damper.

If you find the damper broken, usually the flap mounted on the shaft, here is a link for the damper: Kenmore Refrigerator Model# 596.72252201 Damper .

If you have other questions about your refrigerator just reply back to this thread.
