Q:

How to remove the light shield in my refrigerator?

A:

The screw (if equipped) is normally in the center of the housing. Some models do not have the screw. In this case, the housing slides back, to release the front tabs and it pops out. I'm attaching some pictures that show the screw but it may not necessarily have it. Instructions are also included to remove the light shield. I hope this will help you.

I found that the shield can be removed by putting a common table knife pointed straight up and the knife aligned flat side out into the crack between the forward edge of the light shield and the other plastic and prying by bringing the knife handle towards me and voila! the light shield falls into the fridge! Now I can unscrew the bulbs so they don't heat the fridge. Sears was no help.

Thanks Pete. Worked like a charm. And you're right. Sears was no help at all. I kept telling them I had a manual and couldn't find the "hooks" that it spoke of in order to remove the shield. Sears kept telling me to go online to look at copy of the manual. Really? I already told them I had a copy of manual right in front of me. Then they would give me another number to try for a technician and the "technician" would tell me the same thing. I have had a terrible time dealing with Sears. This problem of the light bulbs staying on when the door is closed and the run-around I have gotten from Sears people has made me never want to buy from Sears again!
