I'm sorry but you're correct in that there is no easy access to the drip pan.

It is not designed for easy access and maintenance.

If there is a musky mildew smell then try using a spray stream or turkey baster to add some bleach to the drip pan.

I did come across one other potential problem. There was an issue with the compressor grommets gave off a musty smell. There was known fix for this. You might try removing one bolt from the compressor mount and smell the grommet. The kit is 10835901 from division 46 source 596.
