Question and Answers

Q:

Fridge and freezer not cooling after lightning strike causes electrical outage on block

A:

I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your refrigerator. This model is only cover by a one year limited warranty. If it has been more than a year since you purchased it, it is no longer covered. From what you are describing it sounds like the compressor, the fans, or both were damaged by the power outage. This will require a technician to diagnose and repair it. If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself, please click on this link to schedule service: Sears Home Services. Click on "Get Started" and follow the directions, click on the red "NEXT" button to continue. I hope this helps. Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. We are always here to help. Thank you for using Manage My Life.com.

I can understand how important the warranty information is to have. Normally a refrigerator will come with a one year warranty that will cover all parts and labor. It should also have a 5 year exceptional parts warranty on the sealed system, which includes the compressor. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

I know that it can be very difficult to have issues with your refrigerator. If the freezer is working ok, this will be an air flow problem. The air diffuser may not be operating properly or the return air vent could be restricted. A good check to determine this will be to, check the air flow out of the diffuser. While checking the air flow, now open the freezer door. If the air flow increases, it indicates the return vent is restricted. Check the rear section of the refrigerator, behind the crispers. There will be a vent in the back left and right corners. These are the return vents and if they are covered it will reduce the air flow. If nothing is covering them, it indicates they are frozen. In this case, there is a heater kit # R9900471 that can to be installed. I recommend having a technician install this kit. I'm listing a site you can check to have a tech come out. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services . To get it working again, turn the unit off for a few hours to all the vents time to thaw out. If the air flow stays the same or no air is coming out, the air diffuser # W10196393 will probably need to be replaced. It is possible the board or sensor could be causing the damper to stay closed but the diffuser is usually the problem. I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread with your full model number. Thank you for using Manage My Life.
