Thank you for choosing ManageMyLife.com. I understand how important it is to have a properly working refrigerator. Problems 1 and 2 are usually because the freezer isn't reaching the desired temperature. The temperature in your freezer should be 0 to 2 degrees. I have included an image below on how to adjust the temperature. Once it has been adjusted, press the Alarm Off button to get rid of the blinking.
There are instructions below on how to replace the water filter for your refrigerator as well. I have included a link to our PartsDirect page where you can purchase the part you need to complete your repair. Just click the blue link below to be taken to the page.

Q:

My Kenmore freezer is sounding an alarm and is 22f with a red lock and exclamation mark

A:

This means the set temperature in the freezer went above 15 degrees F two times are more for 2.5 hrs. This can be due to the following:

  • Thermistor
  • The board
  • Evaporator fan motor
This motor is electronically controlled and it can start slow causing a temperature rise, especially when coming out of defrost. If this happens daily the motor could be defective. This could be difficult to determine. You would need to listen to the motor to see if it speeds up after several minutes.

The thermistor could also be causing this if, it's not sensing the proper temperature. To check the thermistor, first disconnect power to the unit. Now remove the ice bucket and you will see the auger motor housing (# 4 in picture). The thermistor (# 22) mounts on top of it. Remove the 2 screws holding the thermistor and remove the thermistor. Now place the thermistor in a glass of ice water and after a few minutes check the resistance on the 2 terminals. At 32 degrees it should read approx. 87 - 90 kohms. If it's in this range then it's ok and the board will need to be replaced. If it's out of this range, the thermistor will need to be replaced. These can be some difficult checks to make. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Safety Notice: Be sure to disconnect the appliance before performing any troubleshooting procedures. If you are not comfortable with doing any voltage checks or repairs that might be recommended, please contact a local service provider for repairs. Be aware that there could be sharp edges inside the appliance that could cause cuts or other injuries to yourself or others.
