Q:

Why won't my Kenmore dishwasher start the cycle properly?

A:

If the water is not filling properly, try opening the door and manually adding water with a bucket or container. Restart the dishwasher. If the dishwasher pumps and sprays properly with more water added, you may have low water pressure supplied to the dishwasher or a failed inlet water valve.

You may have something (like a piece of glass) jammed in the pump impeller. After it fills, the pump would hum but not pump water since it can't move. It would then click off on the overload. When it cools down, it would restart and hum again.

Look in the bottom of the dishwasher for glass or other debris that may be jamming the pump impeller.

If you are not able to find a foreign object, you may have a bad motor. I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair the dishwasher if you have this type of problem.
