Thank you for your research. I did have a diagram that showed basically the same thing, it just did not make sense that the porcelain and the little black carbon type washer should touch and make a seal. But that is what is supposed to happen and I put it back together and it doesn't leak. I also took apart an old dishwasher and found that I did it correctly.

I am glad to hear you have got the dishwasher taken care of. Looking at the seal, you would not think it would seal but this type of friction seal has been used in Maytag washer for years. The two surfaces are completely smooth and when pushed together it will not leak. I hope this is helpful. please let me know if you need further assistance.

I might have a pump seal problem too. How did you decide it was the pump seal. I sent my question in two days ago, have not heard back. Bascially the DW controls seem to work, DW does not clear out water if discharge is a30 inch AFF. If disharge is 6 inchces AFF, DW pumps out the water

Thank you for adding the model number. I have posted an image below showing the parts of the dishwasher. The part in the box shows the drain impeller. If you are sure, the drain lines are clear I recommend taking the pump apart and inspect the drain impeller. The drain impeller should move with the motor shaft. If it does, it has to be replaced. Before reassembling the pump, clean the macerator and the screen. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

thanks for note Mark. is there a "not" missing from "I recommend taking the pump apart and inspect the drain impeller. The drain impeller should move with the motor shaft. If it does, it has to be replaced. Before reassembling the pump, clean the macerator and the screen." also, which one is the drain impeller? what is the macerator and where is there a screen? Have names that go with diagram?
