Question and Answers

Q:

Tablets don't fit dishwasher dispenser

A:

Gel caps or all-in-one tablets (those that fit) are best to reduce white film glazing. You can also reduce their size by breaking them down physically. If you go to Hammer wall or manual on line, you might be able to find a manual at one of those web sites. Happy washing and have a nice morning.

Thank you. The dispenser is in the shape of a wheel with 4 compartments. Which one should I put the tablet in? The ones I bought have an integral wrapper. Can I still break it up?

Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife.com. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with using the soap dispenser on the dishwasher. We are here to help. This dishwasher can use liquid or powder dishwasher soap. The dispenser on this dishwasher is not designed for the tablets. The owners manual in not longer available due to the age. I cannot find the exact age of the dishwasher. Most likely it was made in the late 80s. I hope this helps.

Check the mushroom float at the front, left bottom portion of the tub to see if it is stuck in the "up" position. If it is, this will prevent the dishwasher from filling. Also, make sure that the water supply valve for the dishwasher is fully open. If the valve is open and the float is not stuck then you could have a problem with the inlet water valve or the timer. You can try manually adding water to the tub with a container and bucket to see if the dishwasher will wash if you hear the pump motor running even though the dishwasher is dry. This may help you determine whether your problem is limited to a water fill issue or also includes a problem with other components. If the dishwasher won't wash even with water added manually then I suspect that you have a failed timer.

If the dishwasher washes with water added manually then you could have a failed water inlet valve or you could still have a problem with the timer. A wiring failure could also cause this problem. A technician will normally need to diagnose and repair this type of failure. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

The dispenser assembly will likely need to be replaced to fix the problem that you have with the rinse aid not dispensing.

Due to the age of this dishwasher, I recommend that you consider replacing the unit instead of repairing it. Even if you fix the problems that it is currently having, you may have other mechanical or electrical failures in the dishwasher soon after fixing this problem.
