Q:

How to stop led flashing and dishwasher running for 1 minute and cutting out 58715173400 Kenmore Dishwasher

A:

Thank you for your question.  I am sorry about the problem with your Kenmore 587.15173400 Dishwasher.  From the description you give I suspect the door switches are popping open.  The error codes on this particular dishwasher is determined by which LED are flashing.  IF the Option lightsm High Temp Wash/Air Dry LEDs are flashing it indicates a power failure.  Check the wire nuts that connect the dishwasher wiring to the house wiring.   A loose wire nut might cause this problem.   If the Status lights, Wash, Rinse, Drying are flashing then it means the control thinks the door is open.  Try holding in on the door and see if the cycle last longer than a minute.   For the unit to fill and wash the door must be closed but if it pops open then everything will shut down.  The control has voltage for lights even with the door open.  You can reply below with any additional details for further assistance.

Thanks, Fred. It's good to know what each of the flashing lights could indicate...I did find a key sequence which ended up getting rid of my issue prior to receiving your response. I held the Air Dry button down for 4 seconds to ensure the control panel wasn't locked, then pressed Air Dry, Normal Wash, Air Dry, Normal wash in quick succession. The dishwasher was then supposed to run some diagnostic, but I never saw evidence of that. I just got excited when only the Normal Wash button was lit so I hit Start and the machine ran through a cycle and has been going great since then. Maybe in my excitement, I pushed the keys so hard the door thoroughly closed per your comment re the status lights above. Thanks again.

Hi, I too have the 587.15173400 and my LEDs are flashing. there are times when they dont flash and I can start a normal cycle, but somewhere, it will just stop again with the lights flashing... the lights are: Air Dry and all the status lights. I tried to put into diagnostic mode, with not avail. The door, does seem to have some play as i can push it in about 1/4-1/2 and inch seemingly. not sure if this has anything to do with it or not. i would rather replace the latch and touchpad than the control board.. thoughts? It can be difficult to see how some appliance parts fit and come apart to do normal care and maintenance.

The image below will demonstrate how to remove the lower arm, filter and glass trap for cleaning or repair. Once removed, clean with warm soap and water. If mineral deposits have built up, use white vinegar to help remove buildup. White vinegar can also help with a weekly rinse cycle to keep the dishwasher clean and smelling good. Follow same instructions in reverse to replace lower arm.

If further information is needed, please reply. Thank you for using Manage My Life.
