Question and Answers

Q:

Is the pump bad on my Kenmore dishwasher model 587.15152400 that doesn't drain?

A:

From the description you give you will most likely have to replace the drain pump. The 154640201 is in the $46 dollar range and could be a do-it-yourself project.

The images below will help you with this.

To access the pump you would remove the kickplate. remember to turn the power off first.

The pump might be jammed with debris and it can be separated and cleaned out.

The pump has two wires going to it and it would be possible to check resistance across the pump if you have access to a volt/ohm meter and are comfortable using it.

I hope this information is helpful to you but submit another question with any additional details for further assistance.

The help I need right now is how to get the water out of the dishwasher. I haven't lived in my house for quite awhile. I had it rented and the people left owing me a lot of money and so now we're not on speaking terms. They had mentioned that the dishwasher didn't work, but they didn't want it fixed. Anyway, now I've moved back in my house. I ran some cleaning powder for dishwashers through the machine, because I needed to know what the symptoms were. And besides, it was filthy, I guess from it not emptying before. So now I have stinky water standing in the bottom. It seems to go through it's cycles OK, but how can I tell if the arms are turning? My main question, though, is this. Is there a way I can manually make the machine drain, if the pump is bad? I don't have the manual....The others are all here, just the one to the dishwasher is missing. BTW, I found one on this website, but it just seemed to be the one for installation. I didn't see an operating manual. Hope you can help because I can't afford to have it worked on right now.

Hello Michael. I am sorry to hear about the problems that you are having with your Kenmore Dishwasher Model 587.15152400.

That link for a previous answer that Alina posted in the above response addresses one possible cause for your problem with that detergent and the lower rack cleaning.

I recommend that you also check the lower spray arms for cracks or splits. Check the spray holes for debris or deposits. Make sure that the dishes are loaded properly so that the spray arms can rotate properly.

Make sure that the dishwasher is filling properly. A low water fill level could cause these problems that you are describing.

I hope that these initial troubleshooting tips help. If you need further assistance, reply with additional details.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician examine and repair the dishwasher, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services Dishwasher Repair.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

If the dishwasher is sudsing, it will leak water. Automatic dishwasher detergent should not produce any foaming. If you using a rinse agent/jet dry in the dispenser and the rinse agent is leaking in and mixing with the detergent water, it can also cause oversudsing. If your on water softener system and use too much dishwasher detergent, it can also over suds and cause water to leak.

Make sure the dishwasher is draining properly too. Run the dishwasher empty without any detergent and see if continues to suds. The unit has to be oversudsing due to the detergent or the amount of detergent used. Be sure to use a name brand detergent and make sure it's not old and clump together in the box. Also make sure the rinse aide is leaking and trickling down the inner door panel. Check the things I have covered here and if I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.
