Question and Answers

Q:

How can I replace the water seal on my dishwasher? It is leaking underneath.

A:

It can definitely be difficult to replace parts on a dishwasher, especially without the assistance of a technician. I have taken some time to research your question here on the Manage My Life website and I noticed that someone else had asked a similar question with a posted response from an expert. I attached the link below for you to view. I hope the link that I provided is helpful.

If you removed that screw at the top (Key 1) already, then the impeller should come off of the shaft. There may be media (rust or other deposits) that can make it difficult to remove that impeller. Significant force may be needed to remove that part. If you are not able to remove it, then you may need to have a service technician examine the pump and install that water seal. Here is a link for the Sears Service website in case you need it: Sears Home Services .

Thank you for the information. There was rust in the area you suggested. The shaft was rusted. I would like to know if a new water seal (key #11) will work on it since it was rusted. Please let me know.

I don't think that the water seal will work. I recommend that you replace the dishwasher in this situation. Even if you repair this failure, the dishwasher may have problems again in the near future based on its age. I provided a link for a current model of dishwasher from the Sears.com website below this response. If I was replacing my dishwasher, that is the one that I would probably buy. It is a dependable model that has a good track record. (It comes in several different colors.)
