Question and Answers

Why doesn't my kenmore dishwasher get spots off dishes like it used to?

Having a Dishwasher leaving dirty dishes after washing them can be frustrating. While you are waiting on an expert to answer your question, I was searching in the Manage My Life website and found a great link. I have attached the link below. Hope this helps!

Spots on some dishes but not others is most likely a circulation problem. To check this I suggest you place a small cup in each corner of the upper and lower racks. Run a rinse cycle and let the dishwasher fill and wash for a couple of minutes then open the door and check if each cup has a similar water level.

White spots can be from mineral deposits left by hard water or from soap. To determine which you have take a glass with the white spot and run it under the water for a moment while rubbing your thumb over the spot. If the spot is gone when the glass is dried then it is most likely soap residue. If the spot is still there when the glass dries then the problem is most likely hard water deposits. The filter screens should be clear. The Dishwasher Magic and rinse aid will help with this. The water level should be to just under the element and when the dishwasher drains there should not be more than a cup of water left.

If the problem just started then I suspect the cause will be with the drain. If all the soapy water doesn't drain out then there will most likely be a soapy film on the dishes. Check if the heating element is covered with a white film. If it is then small white particles might be breaking off and circulating through the dishwasher. If the element is covered with white film then replacing the element might help with this problem. The problem of spots on some dishes but not others can be difficult to pin down. The image below shows how to get into the pump to check for any possible obstructions that might be affecting water circulation.

I hope this information helps but submit another question with any additional details for further assistance.
