Q:

What could be allowing water to get into the crankcase oil on this pressure washer? 580742651 Craftsman Power washer

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I would think that the lower engine seal has failed allowing water to enter the crankcase. More than likely what caused that seal to fail is that the seals on the upper part of the pump failed. That caused high pressure water to push up against the lower crankshaft seal on the engine.

I would recommend having the upper pump seals replaced and also the lower crankshaft seal on the engine.

That's not really a job I recommend for the average home mechanic as it's a little bit involved. If you would feel more confident have a Sears Home Service technician help assist with the diagnosis/repair, you can call 1-800-469-4663, or click here to be directed to the page to set up service.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Q:

The adjustable nozzle on my Craftsman power washer seems to be frozen up. Any suggestions?

A:

You can spray the nozzle liberally with WD40 and let it soak. Put the nozzle against something solid, such as a vise, and tap it lightly with a hammer. The vibration will help the WD40 penetrate.

If you can't free the nozzle up, replace the nozzle.

I own a mod 580, 2200 psi, 5.5 hp Craftsmnan pressure washerwith Tecumseh engine. My adjustable nozzle would not slide from hi to lo pressure position. I removed the yellow outer part, placed the inner nozzle on a wood block and using a hard plastic mallet, beat the heck out of it .. after first spraying it with penetrating oil. It finally moved .. with some effort. I kept cycling it until it moved easily. Now works fine. Howeve when I called he Help Line at the 800 number on a large decal on my unit, the person was of no help except to refer me to Parts to order a new one. I said, I assumed you guys could tell me how to fix this problem and was told, NO we only are taught how to operate them, and I am using the owners manual to see if that will help. SO .. don't expect help from Sears .. they are just sales clerks.
