Question and Answers

Q:

My dehumidifier runs but does not collect water. what can i do? 58052650 Kenmore Dehumidifier

A:

Check the settings according to the guidelines in your owner's manual.  If the controls are set correctly, then I recommend that you check the filter. Low air flow can inhibit water collection. Change the filter and clean the grill on the dehumidifier if necessary.

Make sure that the fan and the compressor are running. If they are both running and there is not a frost pattern on the evaporator, then you likely have a sealed system failure. A service techncian will need to fix that type of problem.

If the dehumidifer appears to be working correctly, then the space where it is running may be too cold and/or dry to collect water.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

A:

You may try cleaning the grill and filter to increase the air flow if you have not performed that maintenance task recently. The dehumidifier may remove more water after cleaning those components if it is still working properly. If the evaporator is no longer developing a frost pattern when the compressor is running, then I recommend that you replace the dehumidifier.

A:

Thank you, James. As I said, the outlet is fine, there is definitely power going to the unit, but the unit is acting as if there is no power. The display is dark and neither the motor nor the compressor runs. It looks like several parts for this unit are no longer available, and one or more of them may be the parts I need. Who would have this information?

A:

I suspect the power board went out if everything is dead now.

The control part number is 6871A10016A but it is no longer available.

Replacing the unit is your best bet.

A:

Thank you, Fred. I was afraid of that, since I noticed a few key parts no longer available. This is the second time in just a few weeks that I've been thwarted in my attempts to repair a Kenmore appliance by parts being no longer available. It's extremely frustrating, but I'm sure intentional by Sears and/or GE. They make more money having us relace an entire appliance than by being able to repair it. It's even more frustrating when a $50 handle part for an $800 refrigerator is the only thing not working and is not longer available.

A:

Sears has little to do with how long parts are kept in supply. They get appliances from various vendors. In the past the vendors were mostly American and you could count on parts being available for at least ten years. More and more the appliances are coming from overseas and they handle parts a little differently. I know it's frustrating. If you need a refrigerator handle then check an appliance parts store in your area. Most will carry some generic handles that might work for you. You can also check out the used appliance stores in your area. Most will strip down appliances for handles, rack and other parts.
