A:

Have looked at the schematic and see the generator has stand alone battery charging coils. The # 55 wire (ground) is melting.The rectifiers are good. Looks to me as I have a shorted coil.

Is this the AC volt line ground that is melting or the 12 volt DC line that is melting?

This is the part number for a very general manual for the generators.

It is not completely model specific.

Part number 86262GS.

Service manual .

A:

#55 is the ground, and it joins the coils for the battery charge a/c side before it goes to the rectifiers( on board battery and battery charge line) The # 55 wire starts melting, so I am assuming one of the coils is shorted. I'm going to remove the bearing end and see if the coil can be dissconnected by cutting the splice of #55. The a/c side of the generator works fine, putting out 242 vac @ 60 hertz. with a load.
