Try flashing the field on your generator to see if this will alleviate the problem. To do that: Start the generator and then plug in a regular corded drill. Now set the drill as if to turn in reverse and squeeze the trigger. Now turn the chuck in the forward direction. This turning will cause a slight amount of DC voltage to be generated from the drill. That voltage will "flash the field". If the magnetism has been lost (from non-use) the drill voltage generated from your turn will cause magnetism to build and the generator will then work. If this is going to solve the problem, it will happen pretty quick (just a few seconds of turn the drill by hand) and the drill will take off running from the generator making power.

If flashing the field does nothing to resolve the issue then there is something else going on.
