If the water dispenser is not working and the ice dispenser is not turning on the auger motor, the problem is probably in the auger motor or the control board or switch inside the dispenser. You can open the freezer door and remove the ice dispenser bucket. Hold the plunger for the door light switch in and press a glass against the dispenser to call for ice. Watch the auger motor shaft and see if it tries to move. If the motor is trying to work, the problem is probably the auger motor. The instructions for replacing the auger motor is located in the image below.

Another way to determine an issue with the control board or a micro-switch inside the dispenser, is to put you ear against the dispenser and push the cradle in for ice. If you hear the micro-switch click as you press and release the cradle, the control board in the front cover of the dispenser is bad. For further assistance, respond to this thread with the complete model number off your refrigerator and more detail.

Model No. 10653606201 I came to this page by following this model number. The pictures you have here are either not for this model number or things have changed somewhere. On my unit there is no motor cover WITH screws. There is only a cover under the ice bin that the ice feeds through. I need to know how to remove this cover. The first photo is of the cover in question and the second is the front. I have already removed the two screws that hold the shaft cover and drive. They come out with no problem but the cover itself will not move. How do I remove this cover?

In the first picture shown, the top section will not come off. It's part of the door panel. If you would like to access the dispenser motor, the cover, located under the bubble in the door, has to be removed. The pictures and instructions listed above from Korinna will be correct. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, I will be glad to assist you further.

What bubble are you referring to? Interior or exterior? The picture shown by Korinna appears to be interior but it is a little hard to tell. If hers is interior it dose not match my refrigerator. If on the other hand it is accessed through the panel (bubble) on the exterior of the door how do I open it? Brian

It will be the bubble inside the door. The auger motor can only be accessed from the inside panel as described by the pictures you have received. Now, the model number listed is not complete and if the pictures shown do not match your refrigerator, please reply with the complete model and serial number and I will be glad to assist you further.

Actually the model number I sent is exactly complete and if you'll look at the second picture I sent you'll see that there are no screws anywhere on that panel. There is nothing on either the front or sides. No panel the remove. Nothing but smooth plastic. The only thing that looks like it might come out is the panel on the top that the ice hopper sits on. This could easily be a transitional model or even a mid year change. As I stated the model number is exactly right as I sent it. 10653606201 The serial number is SM2931853 and the mfg. date is 2002. 07. I would look for service bulletins, change orders, misprints or updated service manuals. Also look for things like Canadian models and units built in China, Korea, Mexico Japan. I know this sounds kinda dumb but I have run into things like this before.Things actually built different for different markets. Also check to see if it might be a Whirlpool or some other manufacturer. They do sometimes install their parts when they're temporarily out of the correct part. Brian

I'm very sorry for the misunderstanding. This is a good model and this will be the standard in door icemaker assembly. If you look at the bottom or under the bubble, you will see an access door. I'm attaching another picture showing the position of the motor inside the bubble and also of the motor with the access door removed. I hope this will help you.

I may need to apologize as well. The pictures made it look like the panel was supposed to be on the front of the bubble. I see now it's on the bottom, under the next shelf down. I haven't removed it yet but I can now see what you were trying to tell me. Thanks for hangin' in there till I saw the light. Brian

I agree with the answer Alina F sent you.

More than likely the air leaking through the door when it was ajar has built up frost in the chute in the door and inside the ice crusher on the front of the ice bucket.

Remove the ice bucket from the freezer and dump the ice into a container to save it. Take the ice bucket to the kitchen sink and run water through the ice crusher on the front of the ice bucket. Clean all frost and ice from the ice bucket and dry it before installing it back in the freezer.

Without a model number I can't pull up any information on your refrigerator. I hope this information helps.

The problem could be a bad auger motor, a bad switch inside the dispenser front, or a broken or loose wire to the auger motor. To test the auger motor, remove the ice bucket and remove the rear panel behind the ice bucket. The auger motor is attached to the rear panel and will come out with the panel. Disconnect the wiring harness from the auger motor and connect a volt/ohm meter to the 2 wires in the wiring harness. Hold the plunger of the door switch in, set the dispenser on cubes, and press the ice cradle in. You should have 120 volts ac coming to the auger motor. Don't make the voltage tests unless you are completely comfortable reading live voltage. This voltage can hurt or kill you if you don't take the proper precautions. If you read 120 volts ac, the auger motor is bad. If you don't read 120 volts ac the problem is inside the dispenser front. I recommend you go to [www.searshomeservices.com] to get a Sears technician to test the dispenser front.
