Question and Answers

Q:

What is wrong when my Kenmore microwave model 565.66401690 runs when I open the door and how do I fix it?

A:

Most likely the door switches have failed but a technician will be needed to diagnose and repair this problem. It may be only a fan running but I recommend turning the power to the microwave off and not use it till a technician can check it.

Microwaves are inherently dangerous to service. Internal capacitors can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is unplugged. A microwave radiation leakage test must be performed on the unit following any repair.

I recommend calling a service technician to repair this type of problem.

Q:

How do I access, check and replace a fuse on a Kenmore model 565.66401690 microwave?

A:

I understand your desire to check the fuse in the microwave yourself but microwaves are not good do-it-yourself projects.

The fuse, part number STD388200, can be checked for continuity with a volt/ohm meter. The fuse cost about $2 dollars so if you don't have a meter you could try to replace it and see if the microwave works. The fuse can be obtained from the following link: Sears PartsDirect .

The cabinet to the microwave must be removed to access the fuse and that's the problem with this do-it-yourself project. Microwaves are inherently dangerous to service. Internal capacitors can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is unplugged. A microwave radiation leakage test must be performed on the unit following any repair.

I recommend calling a service technician to repair this type of problem.
