Q:

Where to connect this white tube/wire? Why is everything in my refrigator frozen. It is set at its lowest. I ordered a new thermostat how do you install it 56494256400 Kenmore Refrigerator

A:

Thanks for the inquiry about a part for your refrigerator model 564.94256400, sorry you are having a problem, I will be happy to assist you. It would be unusual if the thermostat has failed causing the unit to freeze; most likely reason is sealed system failure repairable only by a certified refrigeration technician. _Always disconnect power supply before servicing the appliance and when testing live voltage be sure to wear proper safety equipment (gloves and eye protection) also be aware of sharp metals on product_However, to install new thermostat, remove knob, remove screws or clips from bracket. Disconnect wires from old thermostat and disconnect the long bulb from the evaporator or mounting bracket. Place the white sleeve on the tube of the new thermostat and finish installing in reverse order of removal.  If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services.Ron H.

Ron H. thank you very much for the excellent directions. I installed the thermostat that was sent to me (which is the number list on the part list). However, the new thermostat has to prongs (the ones that look like they should plug into a wall socket) that stick out from the side of the thermostat. Therefore when I try to put the face cover back on the screw does not line up nor does the knob turn the correct way. I was wondering if I should call Parts Direct and ask them to send me a new thermostat that plugs in the back of it, or a different type of face cover that would fix the style of thermostat they sent me. Any help or suggestion would be helpful. Thank you Pamela Kay Wilson mauiforever@verizon.net

Hi hawaii97, If you received the correct thermostat, there will be two prongs from one side of the control, that is where the wires connect (spade clips) you may need to rotate the control so it mounts and turns the right direction as well. I you could send a picture of the control that may help. Ron H.

Ron H. I was going to attach pictures of the two different thermostat but I am not able to cut and paste them into this box. I do not know why? If you can walk me through this process I will be happy to attach the photos.. The one that is installed in the refrigerator is the new part and the refrigerator is working fine now (things are not freezing). The other pictures are of the old part (has the spade clips coming out of the back of the thermostat). However, the cover is not designed the same way. There is no way to fit the new thermostat into the cover. See attached photos.

Thank you for your question. I understand your concern about the loose thermostat sensor. It will normally be connected under the evaporator. I'm attaching a picture of a similar model, which shows the sensor connected under the evaporator. I hope this will help you.

I have one of those refrigerators in my home. I will need to check the physical location of that clip and wire. I think that it goes down the back wall of the refrigerator but I am not sure. I will update this thread once I look at mine.

I checked the refrigerator that I have. It is a similar model but not the same exact one. The sensor for that thermostat was clipped on the side wall and went to the back wall inside the refrigerator. Yours may be different but maybe this information will help.
