Q:

Kenmore Elite compact refrigerator.

A:

Thank you for your question. This sounds like a drain problem. The drain pan could be overfilling or it may be leaking. The drain pan is towards the back. Usually the drain pan can be accessed, by removing the back panel and it will be located behind the fan motor. If it's full, it could be a humidity problem. Excess humidity will cause the refrigerator to absorb more moisture, causing a higher than normal frost accumulation. The excessive frost can overflow the drain pan. This problem goes away when the humidity level goes down. In some cases a drain pan heater # 978387 will need to be installed.

If there is no water at all in the drain pan, it may have a leak in the pan. You can pour some water in the pan to check it. If the pan is leaking, it would need to be replaced.

thanks for the link. this undercounter unit is so simple that it is likely a thermostat or controller issue. seems that no matter what the dial is set at the temp is well below freezing.

Thank you for your question. I can understand your concern about this freezing condition inside the fridge. If its freezing even with the thermostat at the warmest setting, it indicates the thermostat # 302899 has failed and will need to be replaced. Its available at http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/302899?searchModPar=302899&pathTaken=partSearch&prst=0&shdPart=&sid=MMLxexpertxmerch . If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

Jay, there are no special tools needed. Screw drivers and possibly a nut driver, should be all that is needed. There are no instructions available for replacing this thermostat. Be sure to disconnect the power first. When the thermostat panel is removed, you will see how the sensor is mounted. In some cases, it could be curled up behind the thermostat and sometimes it may run out and connect next to the evaporator. When you have access, to the thermostat, you will also be able to see how the sensor is positioned. If you would like to have a technician make this repair, you can call 1-800-469-4663 to schedule a tech to come out.

Jay, unfortunately there is nothing else on this compact model that will control the temperature. Now, it is possible the new thermostat could be defective. Make sure the new thermostat has been installed the same as the original. I'm listing the Return Policy: You may return an unused and uninstalled part in its original packaging. To return a part, you must first obtain a Return Authorization number by calling 800-366-PART or visiting our website at www.SearsPartsDirect.com. We must receive the returned part(s) with the Return Authorization number within 90 days of your original order date. Credit will be issued for the part(s) plus tax minus shipping charges. Your satisfaction is important to Sears. Since this control has been installed, you will need to call the number listed, to see if it can be exchanged. I hope this will help you.

Q:

How to replace the power cord on a Kenmore compact refrigerator model 564.91499100?

A:

This type of connector will be crimped on and will not pull off. The wires will have to be cut to get the connectors off. To reconnect the wires, the insulation will need to be stripped back and you will need some additional (new) crimp or screw on type connectors. Make notes how the wires connect, so you can get the same wires back together properly. You can get wire connectors at any local hardware store. If you don't feel comfortable performing this type of repair, a technician will be needed.
