Q:

What should repairman do to analyze banging noise during spin cycle? Shredded plastic in gray gasket around front of tub? 11042922200 Kenmore Elite Washer

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be happy to help with your washer. Upon researching model number 11042922200; it can be difficult to diagnose a unit without reproducing the issue. It would be best to have a repair man out if there is a part that you can see is damaged. Have the part that is damaged replaced and see if noise can be duplicated.  The tub wobbling can be due to a bearing. Turn the tub by hand and listen for a grinding noise or resistance when turning. If it has any then it could be that the bearing is failing.

Thank you for choosing Sears. We appreciate your business. Have a great day.

After purchasing a new front half of the tub (which was definitely shredded) I began to re-assemble the washer. The stainless steel inner drum still appeared to be wobbly. After doing some research online, it was advised that the rear half needed to be replaced since this is the part that has the bearings. Upon further dismantling the dryer to take out the rear half of the tub, I found that the real problem was on the back end of the stainless steel drum. The part that spreads out like a tripod on the back of the drum was shattered in two places this is essentially a $550 part which is more than I am willing to spend. At this stage of the game, I'm going to purchase a new washing machine. My question is this: I am willing to hold out and find another broken down Kenmore Washing machine and hopefully replace the broken "tripod" and sell the washer and dryer set that I currently have. What other Kenmore models utilize this same drum so I can widen my search parameters?

Hi Christina & Original questioner. 12/6/2015 My HE3t has exactly the symptoms your describe . Whilst spinning - Banging, imbalance , shredded white plastic in clothes area , front edge of drum opening rotating in an irregular elliptical shape ,,, etc . I also observed radial play moving by hand the front opening of the drum , indicating a bearing failure or worse . * Your excellent disassembly observation of fractures in the rear drive drum area "tripod" is very telling of a design or materials or manufacturing defect . I would expect this to be lifetime warranted .. Thus all models of a certain age are likely to have this same problem & a used one would surely fail after a while . I saw "Washing machine inner basket and shaft assembly. $360.95 OEM Part - Manufacturer #W10269756 " This cost is better than 1/2 of a new machine, and may require more parts beyond the drum itself. I love doing it myself DIY but the economics on this job are unfavorable . Jerry 12/6/2015

that's the whole box? $380!! it's same price I paid for the whole grill...perhaps you made a mistake?? my unit is rusted threw...kept covered and all during the whole winter and summer. I'd say this is a manufacturers defect. It's not meant to be a disposal unit! Not only disappointed but feel robbed!

Im also looking to replace the bottom panel of the Firebox...Bit the part is not listed separately. Incredibly ridiculous that I need to buy entire firebox at $380, when everything works fine,,,other than bottom panel extremely brittle and breaking into pieces. Absolutely unacceptable...More people need to bring this to light and complaint to whatever complaint boards available. This is only my second summer with this grill..Come on SEARS/Kenmore stand by your product. Will definitely be sending my complaint to BBB and any other consumer association...DISGUSTED!!!

I have had grill for only 2 years, (lovingly maintained and covered) the firebox tray is completely rotted through and in pieces. Worst craftmanship I have ever seen. I would not even complain if i could buy the part (cheap peice of tin) for $20 bucks. Now I will have to make my own from sheet metal, last time we buy kenmore!

I have the same problem. I also have only have the Grill for 2 years ((lovingly maintained and covered). Imagine my surprise this past 4 of July when i noticed that the firebox tray is completely rotted through and almost in pieces. This past 4th of July is the first time the grill has been put to use all year. Out the the 24 months that Ive own the grill I sure i have not used it over 25 times. Paint, stainless steel, aluminum frame like new - but firebox drip tray has completely deteriorated. I usually buy another gas grill brand but i decided to give Kenmore brand a try - due to the possible availability of parts for replacement. I was sort shocked when i realized that the part could not be separated from the firebox and could not purchased separately. I intend to complain to sears, the local media and to whoever will listen.

I am in the same situation. The grill is 2 years old. We could not get it to start and when we took out the burners we saw it was rotting thru the bottom. Not as bad as photos I've seen on other sites but it's heading in that direction. I called the 800 # and was told model 148.23683310 is not one of the models that they are replacing defective fireboxes. Really...? According to other websites this model number is defective like the models they are replacing. I have a call into a regional Manager (when I get a name I will post it along with their phone #) maybe this can be taken care of without attorneys(class action suit?) being involved. I can't understand how Sears can know that this is happening and will do nothing about it. I supposed when someone gets hurt they'll have to take care of it but at what expense..? Or better yet maybe the person who made the decision would like to swap grills. I'll take theirs home and they can take mine and fire it up...good luck.

Same exact problem here. Grill is under two years old, the bottom is totally rotted through. I went into the local Sears to look at the newer Kenmore grills and the updated model has a separate grease tray, under $15 for the part. But on this model you have to buy the entire box. You would think they could come up with a replacement for the grill bottom that didn't require replacing the entire box - but either way I agree with the other commenters that this is seriously defective and it's too bad Sears won't stand behind this product. Next time, Weber grills all the way. Shame on me for going cheap. No wonder Sears is going down the toilet. So much for a once-great American Company.

We bought this grill April 2013 and have the same problem. I will remember to go on this site and read comments before I buy another Kenmore grill. We are going to complain to Sears and then buy a good grill (not from Sears).
