The model number on that box appears to be a little distorted. I believe the model number should be 536.888400. Here is a the manual for that model: Owner's Manual .

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having problems with the snow blower. If the auger is not turning, I recommend checking the belt first. I have provided you with the instructions for checking the belt. If the belt seems to be fine start the engine and have, someone pull the auger lever while you watch the augers from a safe distance. If the impeller is spinning and the augers are not I recommend checking the shear bolts. The shear bolts are made to break if the auger comes into contact with something hard. If the shear bolts are ok, the problem would be a sheared gear in the front gear box. To replace this gear you have to completely disassemble the front of the snow blower. A service technician usually does this type of repair. I hope this is helpful.

A:

Trying to figure out symptoms of broken parts on a snow blower could be tricky. I researched your question and provided you with two links. One link will give you the possible reasons as to why your starter rope will not retract. The other link will assist you with replacing the starter rope. I hope this helps! http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/questions/194010-what-would-cause-the-starter-rope-not-to-recoil-on-my-craftsman-snow-thrower-model-24788705 http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/questions/191355-the-rope-on-my-snowblower-broke-and-i-purchased-a-replacement-from-the-sears-parts-store-can-you-tell-me-how-to-replace-the-rope

Thank you for your question.

The pin should be just a pressed fit. I recommend checking the top side of the recoil. You might be able to drive the pin out with a hammer and a punch. Other wise you can try to pull it out with a pair of pliers or use a flat blade screwdriver to gently pry under the retainer. There is not a special tool needed to remove the pin. The only service I recommend doing to a recoil starter is replacing the rope. If it is not recoiling the problem is most likely a broken spring. I recommend replacing the complete recoil because the spring can get away from you and cause serious injury if you are not sure what you are doing. Make sure to wear gloves and eye protection. I have sent you a break down of the parts to the starter so you know how it should go back together. I hope this is helpful.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.
