I am sorry to hear of the issue you’re having with the electric starter. I know how frustrating that is.

When you push the button and the starter motor runs the gear should pop up to engage the flywheel. If the gear does not move up it will not engage the flywheel. If the electric motor on the starter is running when you push the button, it might only need to be cleaned and lubed.

Once it is removed spray around the gear with WD-40 and let it soak. After a while, try to get the gear to move with a screwdriver. If it seems to move free, reinstall the starter and check the operation. If this does not cure the problem, you will need to replace the starter. You could have an issue with the collar itself on the starter behind the pinion gear. I have seen kits online that are available. I have linked a video below that may be helpful.
