Question and Answers

Q:

Broken starter rope 536885213 Craftsman Snow thrower

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

The best way to repair a broken starter rope is to replace the rewind starter. Many times the reason the rope breaks is because something is worn inside the starter assembly.

The part number for the rewind starter complete is 590787, and the rope replacement is 590535.

To replace the starter rope you need to remove the rewind starter from the engine. There are usually 2 screws mounting the starter to the engine blower housing. After removing the starter, you peel off the decal in the center of the starter and pull a plastic pin out of the center of the shaft. This will let the starter pulley and spring pull out of the starter housing.

Be careful of the rewind spring. If it is freed it will unwind violently and can cut you or damage your face.

Hold the starter pulley so the spring stays in place and allow the spring to unwind. Unwind any rope from the pulley and disconnect the old rope from the starter pulley.

Attach the new rope to the starter pulley and run the end of the rope out the hole in the starter housing. Turn the pulley to rewind the rope. This will put the tension back in the spring so it rewinds.

Attach the handle and slide the starter pulley and spring back into the housing.

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be happy to research your snow thrower. Upon researching model number 536885213; there isn’t a gear box used on this unit. The oil should be coming from the engine. Clean up the engine and underside. Check a day after cleaning it and you should be able to trace the oil to the leak.

Q:

Repalcement auger paddle replacements 536.885213

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be happy to help with your snow thrower. Upon researching model 536.885213; the thick rubber faces towards the center of the auger. The same paddle is used for the four spots. The position won’t matter as long as the rubber is towards the center. Click here for picture.

Thank you for choosing Sears. We appreciate your business. Have a great day.
