Question and Answers

Q:

I have a craftsman snow blower, model 536.884562. What is the spark plug size and how much oil do I use per gallon of gas?

A:

I think its great that you are wanting to do maintenance on your snow blower since this will prolong the life of the appliance. I am adding a link below in where you can view the owners manual for your snow blower. I am also adding a second link in where you can enter the snow blower model number and a parts list diagram will pop up in where you can order the spark plug. I hope this helps while you wait for your expert response.

A:

The fuel/oil mix for your engine should 40:1 and the spark plug should be a Champion RCJ8Y (or equivalent) gapped to .030.

Q:

I have a Craftsman 3.0hp snow blower I'm replacing the spark plug. Does it need to be gapped?

A:

The spark plug should be gapped at .020. Being gapped wrong probably won't keep it from starting.

Remove the spark plug and spray some starting fluid into the cylinder then install the spark plug and try to start the engine.

If the engine starts and dies you know your problem is in the fuel system. If the engine doesn't start your problem is in the ignition system.
