Question and Answers

Q:

I just put on a new auger belt on my craftsman snow thrower and now the auger will not stop turning. Depressing the handle controlling the auger does nothing. 536.884430

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be happy to help with your snow thrower. Upon researching model 536.884430; check the cable and spring. Make sure they aren’t worn out or damaged. Check the area to see if another part is interfering with their operation. Check the return spring for any damage. The return spring pulls the tensioner to disengage the pulley.

Thank you for choosing Sears. We appreciate your business. Have a great day.

Q:

Snow thrower electric start. 536.884430

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the issue you’re having with the electric starter not engaging the engine. I know how frustrating that is.

The starter has a gear that runs up a shaft when the starter turns. This gear engages in another gear on the flywheel and turns the engine over.

When the starter turns but doesn't engage the engine, the gear and shaft on the starter usually need cleaning.

Remove the starter from the engine and clean the shaft and inner portion of the gear with WD40. Inspect the gear on the starter and the gear on the flywheel while you have the starter off. There could be damage to the teeth on one or both of the gears.

I am not sure specifically what it would cost to have a technician assist you with the repair, but you can use the link or phone number below to get pricing information.

If you would feel more confident have a Sears Home Service technician help assist with the diagnosis/repair, you can call 1-800-469-4663, or click here to be directed to the page to set up service.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Q:

snow Thrower won't start 536884430 Craftsman Snowthrower

A:

Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there is trouble with the snowblower.

Glad to help out.   Im  looking at your Craftsman model number 536.884430.   When I use your snowblower model number, I was able to pull up the original model number of your Techumseh engine and model number from it is HSK840-8213.

To get a spark from your engine so that it will start is the spark plug and the magneto/solid state assembly.  The item that the spark plug wire is a part of.  If it is getting a spark but the flywheel not turning all the way over then you will be looking at getting a new starter.   I have these on the links below.

Solid state assembly/ignition modue per model HSK840-8213

starter per model HSK840-8213
