Question and Answers

Q:

Model # 536.255861 possible transmission problem 930045 Peerless Transaxle

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with your lawn mower. Upon researching model 536.255861; it sounds like you may need to replace the motion drive belt. The motion drive belt allows the unit to move, so when it becomes stretched out it can lose power going up the slightest incline. If the unit is operating at a higher temperature than normal since the oil leaked, then the unit may not have the appropriate levels of oil or may be slowly leaking causing the unit to operate at higher temperatures.

I trust this information will help you, we appreciate your business thank for choosing Sears.

Q:

Engine just quits. 536255861 Craftsman Lawn, tractor

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.
Sorry to hear of the intermittent shut-off issue you are having when the tractor gets to operating temperature. I know how frustrating that is to have occur.
I agree with your assumption 100%. It is very common for the solid state modules to quit producing spark at operating temperature when they are on their way out. They will start fine cold, and if allowed to rest they will produce spark until they eventually give out completely.
The only other thing that could cause this symptom would be negative pressure in the fuel tank caused by the cap not venting properly. Once allowed to rest, the negative pressure releases and allows the fuel to flow again. A simple way to rule this out is right before the engine dies (if it gives you warning by sputtering etc..) undo the fuel cap and see if it smoothes out, if so, replace the cap.
However, the spark module is much more likely in this case. You can check spark right after it dies by removing the plug, reattaching it to the boot, and grounding the plug to the cylinder and turn the key to Start. If you see no spark or very weak spark, I would replace the module.
Hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.
