The ballast could be the issue, but first did you reset the lamp time after installing a new lamp. The TV should have a prompt after replacing the lamp asking; Did you replace the lamp? If you did not reset the lamp timer then the TV could just going off the time. If you have not reset the timer then I would suggest removing the lamp and placing it back and when it prompts select yes. If it does not prompt the question then you could unplug the set and it should prompt the lamp replacement question again.

Did the resetting....we put in a new lamp and no problems as of yet so I'm thinking it was a bad lamp. Will find out in a few weeks. The last time we put in a new lamp, 3 weeks later it did the red light thing for a couple days then it was fine until just last week. I don't think the problem will be the lamp if this happens again unless we just got another bad lamp.

The main thing to check would be do you hear a ticking sound when you try and turn the TV on. If you here a ticking sound then that means the ballast is working. The tick is cause by a the ballast trying to light the lamp.

Hi Dusty.. My Samsung tv will run for a bit.. maybe an hour.. maybe less before the picture goes out.. I believe when the cable is hooked the sound keeps playing.. I inspected the lamp.. and I couldn't see any thing that might say the lamp is bad.. I was researching purchase of a replacement.. however the model that it tells me on the side of the tv doesn't come up as a replacement.. BP64-OO388E.. I then saw where my problem may be the ballast so I removed it and looked on line and found two.. but one had the prongs on the front.. and really didn't look like mine.. the other did have the prongs on the rear but it looked alittle different.. so I stopped.. I began looking for ballasts and found you here.. so I thought I'd write you and see what we can figure out.. Thank you for your time.. Clark aka.."Turbo"

Oh.. and when I put the lamp and ballast back in.. ( I didn't touch the lamp).. the tv did not prompt me about replacing the lamp.. I'm curious about the "timer".. as on my set when I turn it on.. the timer lite blinks.. then the lamp lite turns on.. the tv is bright.... but not sure how long it will stay on.. before it goes out.. lol
